Adjectival Phrase

Adjectival Phrase   (Adj. p)This is a phrase with an adjective as its head. The basic function is to modify the noun, this it does in various ways.As an attribute- this is when the Phrase appears before the noun it is modifying.Examples:The tall fat girl eats a lot.  (the tall fat modifies girl)A most dreadful error has been committed. (most dreadful modifies error). As predicative adjectives- this happens when the adjectival phrase complete the meaning of the verb.
Examples:Chioma is interestingly funny. ( interesting funny modifies man).Tunde can be annoyingly stupid. (annoyingly stupid modifies Tunde). Note: the adjectival phrase in these examples are complements of their subjects.
 As post modifies- When the adjectival phrase appears immediately after the noun or pronoun it modifies, it is said to post- modify the noun or pronoun.
Examples:The man with the battered nose is coming this way.The girl crying at the back of the hall lost her mother.( the underlined phrases modify the nouns before the man and girl).
